Pizzeria and Pub, Profenno's has it all
A second chance, I found what I was looking for at Profennos.
Located in Westbrook, Profenno's has been a family-owned restaurant since 1962. A huge fire destroyed the original location in September 2004, but they build a new one right next door 7 months later. There are two parts of the new building- the more kid friendly Pizzeria, featuring 8 tables and then the pub area, with two floors. Downstairs you'll find live music, televisions playing the game and upstairs you'll find pool tables, darts and a jukebox.

My first visit was the day I moved to Westbrook, when my brother-in-law decided to take us there, as either an inauguration or hazing. I can't remember much about that visit, since I was over-tired, over-hungry and whiny, but I do remember thinking the waitress hated me. I helped myself to some liquid courage and grabbed my good friend Misty-who knows just about everyone in Westbrook, for back up and headed over for a second try.
I can't pin-point the exact time I lost the other half of my judgment, but I can tell you I had fun doing it. Ohh, I'm getting a head of myself.

After a hearty greeting from half the restaurant to Misty, we settled in at the bar. Mary greeted us. That's right, Mary. And she was nice. Then Paul Profenno came over to say hello to Misty, also nice.
Not quite convinced that I was getting the real treatment, I scan the room. College guys drinking and watching a game. Older couples eating as Harvey Weinstein plays a dinner set. Young couple, heads together, deep in conversation. Members of the Maine Dart Association playing upstairs. That's what I was afraid of? So not scary...
Many of us can agree- our wallets are hurting a bit. In addition to a cheap food and drink menu, Profenno's features many consistant specials with no gimmacks. Monday and Tuesday nights, they feature 2 for 1 (in house only) pizzas along with $2 glasses of house wine (my review and all accurate notes may go downhill from here, becuase of that little special) and frequently have live music during dinner. On Wednesdays, they have a free food buffet, starting at 10pm and 1.50 bottled beer. On Thursday (also $1.50 drafts) night and Fridays they have DJ's and Karaoke, from 9pm to close. Live music every Saturday night and free pool on Sundays.

Regardless of the day or the specials, all domestic bottled and draft beer is $2.75 and micro brew bottles are $3.50 or $3.75 on draft. Choices include Shipyard, Gritty's Seasonal, Budweiser, Miller Lite, Corona and way more. Check out the full selection for beer and wine choices.
You'll also see on that menu tons of food options. Mortadella and cheese sandwich? Done. Specialty pizzas? Got 'em. Fried clam dinner? Yup. With fresh made breads and dough, they also feature daily food specials with options like fettucine alfredo, halibut and roasted pork.
Many thanks to Paul for being so helpful and Mary for standing up to Sumo upstairs- that free drink wasn't necessary though! Dell, thanks for reminding me why I haven't drank a Bud Ice in 18 years. Challenging you at arm wrestling may not have been one of my better ideas though. Harvey, you are a great listener and I guess I needed that session!
From college kids to older people to single lawyers, you'll find all types at Profenno's. While my liver may not be that happy today, my wallet sure it. As I waved goodbye to my new friends, I told them I would be back soon.
