A little bit of Mexico in Westbrook?

Formerly a sports bar, this Mexican restaurant has outlasted it predecessors and I went in to scope out why.

Fajita Grill is located on Main Street in Westbrook, right between the bank and the corner of Bridge Street.

With a ton of tables and a full bar, Fajita Grill has plenty of space for large groups, families or couples dining out. The bright colors and extensive staff greet you the moment you walk in. Banners hanging everywhere and south of the border decorations catch my eye, and the music reminds me of a trip to Mexico years back. A bit of a language barrier occurs when I try to explain to the bartender why I'm there, but at least I feel this place is authentic.

Starting off with a Strawberry margarita, I am shocked by the size. That large goblet of tasty goodness makes me so very happy, I didn't even care that it was $9. They have a full bar and many beers to choose from too. Draft beers include Budweiser, Bud Light, Dos Equis Amber, Dos Equis Lager, Heineken, Michelob Ultra ($3), and Budweiser American Ale and all are available in 16 or 25 ounces. In a bottle, you can grab a Bud, Bud Light, Dos Equis, Modelo, Negra Modelo, Miller Lite, Sol, Tecate, Carte Blanca, Bohemia, Corona ($2.75), Corona Light, Michelob Ultra, Heineken, Heineken Light and Pacifico. I'm impressed by the selection of bottled beers!

As soon as you sit, you will be greeted with chips and salsa. The salsa is full of flavor and the chips were nice and crunchy, with just enough salt to make you drink more. Their menu is extensive and extremely low priced. Fajita Grill has thirty combination plates, ranging from $7 to $7.25, where you can choose enchiladas, tacos, burritos, in any flavor or combination. Or have the shrimp fajita taco salad for $8. My brother-in-law cannot get enough of the Mexican cheese steak soft tacos (8.99) and chicken enchiladas with green sauce, Yolandas, is one of their higher prices dishes, at $10.49. With a children's menu, large dessert portions and multiple sides to add to any dish, there is something on this menu for everyone.

I think the biggest reason to check out Fajita Grill is their daily specials. On Sundays, all combination plates are buy one, get one free and you can get a bucket of any five bottled beers for $10. On Mondays, all 25 ounce drafts are $5 and chimichangas are $4. My friend Alice frequents this place on Tuesdays for the $.40 wings and $1.50 drafts. Wednesday brings large goblet lime margaritas for $4.99, a total steal and Thursdays feature $2.50 bottles.

I have friends that absolutely rave about it and others who have had a less than perfect experience. I can't comment too much on the food, since I am very picky and rarely eat anything of interest so I'll leave that up to the readers. If you want cheap food, cheap drinks and plenty of service, I would say it's time to try Fajita Grill, if you haven't already. Then let me know what you think.
