Couch to Beacon: Redemption
Shannon Bryan still can't run, but she believes in second chances. She's giving the Beach to Beacon 10K another shot (you know, after last year's tragic failure. But let's not bring that up).
Follow her training through race day: August 2.
Video: Beach to Beacon trial run
Yes, I'm lazy and reusing content from last year. But it's entertaining content (so says I, who is in no way biased).
It's a trial run of the Beach to Beacon. And yes, I'm aware that the final stretch in the video isn't 100 percent accurate. The course actually enters Fort Williams through another gate - not the main entrance.
Someone was kind enough to point that out. Of course, I never crossed the finish line last year so I guess I wouldn't have first-hand experience there. But thanks for reminding me. Much appreciated. Really.
So without further adieu, See. Shannon. Run...Sort of...

Your creativity and artistic liberty were amazing. That was one of the funniest videos ever. You did a great job and obviously have amazing talent at not only writing and editing, but in video and good eating as well.
Great job!

So I woke up this morning and sat at my computer with my coffee and saw the e:mail that your latest installment was posted on Mainetoday.com. Now I'm sitting here in my PJ's with my coffee cup half full and the other half splattered across the screen of my laptop because I was laughing so loud I spit my coffee. Girl, you have mega talent, even if it's not in the running world! I think Saturday Night Live should be calling you any second. :)

Shannon, doesn't all that agitation make your beer foam up? Careful you don't get any up your nose.

I'm glad you asked, Wendy. Drinking while running is quite difficult - in fact, in the video you can see the beer foam spilling out of the bottle (I know, what a waste). I nearly did get it up my nose.

Brilliant Shannon, absolutely brilliant! Hilarious!! With a great attitude like that and your rigorous training schedule you should do just fine. Cheers, and the very best of luck!

Oh my God, I think I feel tears welling up, the ending is just so touching. I am so proud of you. Our little Shannon has grown up so much taking on this big responsibility of running such a high profile race. Oh, before I forget, you owe me gas money.

You are my hero. When/if you come down, maybe you can show these rednecks a thing or two about fitness.
Yikes, looks like I need to get myself back in shape in order to keep up with you. ;)

Shan,
Thanks for reposting this. I bet now that a year has gone by and she's re-reading this, your mom wishes she hadn't referred to us as "those New-Englanders".

I'm sure this year you will do fine. Just go at your own pace. I admire your determination to turn last year's defeat into this year's victory. That cold beer after the race will go down so smooth.

Per my comment from last year, I still think Saturday night live will be calling any minute....and....I spilled my beer on my screen this time instead of my coffee! YOU CAN DO IT! That finish line is YOURS this year!

That was a great video Shannon. Good luck Saturday!! All your hard work will pay off when you cross the real finish line in 2008 and 2007 will be a distant memory.

Amazing!!!! All that running and exertion, and YOU NEVER EVEN BROKE A SWEAT! My goodness girl...you must be in REALLY good shape, what with all that running and training and stuff! Where do you come up with that self-discipline...you should teach a class on motivation and preparation...all those New-Englanders could learn a thing or two from your splendid example!!! I'm so proud of you I even sent articles and photos chronicling your run to the Chicago Tribune - Special Heros section!
SYNOF!!!!
(NOTE: I thought it appropriate to post a "fake rave review" for your fake run) [giggle!]
