Beach To Beacon "What A Weekend"

The 11th annual Beach To Beacon is now in the books and what a great day it was! Congratulations to all finishers and especially to the 92 "Reach The Beacon" training program participants that reached their goals for this race.... Shannon, congrats on your great finish, 1:06:22. Several members posted PR's, some by as much as 10 minutes....

For a complete listing of results Go Here!

Ed Muge, from Kenya, edged Maregu Zewdie of Ethopia, by less then a second, in 25:52.4. The field was off the course record and with Beijing around the corner, not as deep, as only 9 men ran under 30 minutes. Top female was Kenya's 41...(Yes, 41!) year old Kenyan, Edith Masai in 31:55.6, an increadible time, especially for a masters age runner, which placed 16th overall.

Kristen Barry broke the Maine State course record with a time of 34:37.1 with her good friend and training partner, Sheri Piers, 10 seconds behind in 34:48, also breaking the old course record. The top Maine Male was Dartmouth College and North Yarmouth resident, Ben True in 31:01.

Dan Franek won the Master's Men in 32:55 and Ellie Tucker won the Women's Seniors (50-59) Divison (Congrats, Ellie!) in 41:26.

Tuesday, WSCH 6 program did a segment on the Reach The Beacon Training group, for those that missed it, go here! 207 host, Kathleen Shannon, ran 1:02:37. She stopped by our tent after the race and was excited about her finish.

Bill Rodgers ran for the first time in 10 years. Billy stopped by the tent and signed books and autographs at the B2B Expo on Friday....He'll be at our store on Thursday, September 18, to run and talk about Marathon Training. Go here for more info...

Hot product at the Maine Running Booth, included the New Nike LunaTrainer and Racer. The racer weighs 5.5oz and is what all the athlete's will be wearing in Beijing. They are completely sold out until January... Nike Sport Bands were also a big hit as we are now completely out until next week. Look for a flurry of marketing on the "Human Race" 10K on August 31...MRC will host a "Human Race" group run to see if we can't help Nike reach 1 million runner's running in one day! Go Here for more info on the "Human Race."

Time to gear up for the fall season. Our Fall Training will focus on the Portland Trails 10K and Maine 1/2 Marathon until October, then shift focus to the 5K Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day 4 miler. For information on our Thursday Night Fall Training Group, Go Here! Our Tuesday Night Ladies Run/Walk 5K Training group starts, Tuesday, August 12, 6pm. Go Here for more info!...
