It's gonna be a busy weekend
This might be the Friday night to get out of town. Point your car south on the pike and motor straight on until you reach the Biddeford exit. It's Art Walk in that city tonight from 5-8 pm (every fourth Friday) and everything's free. You have your pick between the two most popular sites - Biddeford City Theater on Main Street or River Tree Arts in the North Dam Mill - or a handful of other locations, including Loving Anvil on Washington Street and Lacava on Water Street.
If you'd rather travel north, get yourself to Brunswick to visit the Theater Project (14 School St.). The show for the night is Stories with Al, 45 minutes of tales from around the world. The price of admission is merely an item or two you'd like to donate to a local food bank. The tales begin at 7 pm.
If you're determined to stay in Portland, it could be your night to show off your Latin moves. Maine Ballroom (641 Congress St.) holds salsa practice from 8-9:30 pm. Bring a dance partner or find a few to sweat with when you get there. It's just $3 to salsa the night away.

There's plenty more dancing for you on Saturday at that one of a kind place, Bubba's Sulky Lounge (92 Portland St.). It's I Luv the 90s night with DJ Jay-C and you can shake your booty to Shaggy for just a $4 cover.
It'll cost you just $1 more to get in the door at Empire Dine and Dance (Congress St., Portland). You don't have to shake a thing at Empire if you don't want to. Just find a seat and listen to the tunes of featured act This Way. Opening up will be Adam Kurtz and Pete Miller and a few of his friends.
And if $5 is too much for your evening's entertainment, you can sit and watch and applaud for free at the World Arts and Cultural Center Open House (65 W Commercial St., Portland). There's a performance show and a dance party (by donation) and the event runs from 5-9 pm.
Assuming you'll be watching basketball tournament games on Sunday, I'm not sending you out until after dinner. You've got two great options to choose from tonight, both running from 8-11 pm.
If you're itching to grab the mic and have a wild time, the place to be is Styxx (3 Spring St., Portland), where Bunny Wonderland is hosting Bunny Idol. It'll be a little bit music, a lot comedy - and since there's no fee to get in you can buy yourself one of those $3 Skyy Vodka drinks. Idol is still in the qualifying rounds, but mark your calendar now for the semifinals on April 12.
In the mood to do good for others? There's a gig for you at the Meg Perry Center (644 Congress St., Portland) that benefits Peace Action Maine. The stage will be busy and the place will be rocking with Big Blood, Uke of Spaces Corners and Attar Cups. The suggested donation is $5 or $10, so you have two choices: be cheap or plan to stay in on Monday.

Hi Karen, thanks for doing this blog. I grew up in Portland and visit every so often. Look forward to checking your blog for what's going on!
Can I make a suggestion? Create (and link to) a fixed page of free things ALWAYS going on, like Friday evenings at the PMA. Danke... Jeff
