A job, The Bard or a PBR?
Maybe you've been looking for cheap entertainment because, like too many Mainers, you happen to be temporarily unemployed. So ... maybe you should be thinking about finding gainful employment instead of another PBR.
Well, aren't you in luck on this Monday? MaineJobs/Monster is holding a spring job fair at Southern Maine Community College from 10 am-3 pm today. Don't forget to bring your resume. And maybe you could put on a clean pair of jeans.

After your job quest, it's possible you'll be feeling a little Lear-y tonight. And you're in luck again, 'cause it's Naked Shakespeare night at Wine Bar (38 Wharf St., Portland). The Sonnets & Soliloquies start at 8 pm and you pay just a $5 donation to Acorn Productions to be part of it.
Your Tuesday could be start-studded. You know you're way better on stage than any of those wanna-bes on American Idol. Now's your chance to prove it. If you haven't heard yet, Anthony's Dinner Theater (151 Middle St., Portland) is auditioning locals for Anthony's Idol tonight and Wednesday. It's free to strut your stuff, but you've got to call 807-2458 to be in the running.
Didn't get enough of the book over the weekend? There are still a few lingering freebie Maine Festival of the Book events to take advantage of. Tonight at USM's Glickman Family Library in Portland you can meet author Paul Harding, who will read from his book "Tinkers" at 7 pm.

Wednesday is like a second chance at stardom. If you bombed out of Anthony's Idol, you can still make sure Portlanders take notice at Open Mic Acoustic night at Slainte (24 Preble St., Portland). But make sure you've practiced. Host Don Dumont will start calling amateurs to the stage at 8 pm.
If you need liquid encouragement before you strum your guitar, you can get it at RSVP (887 Forest Ave., Portland). It's the second Wednesday of the month, which means free wine tasting from 4-7 pm. Mmmm. Fruity with a nice finish.
Great cinema night? That sounds like a Thursday. The $5 WMPG Film Festival continues its Les Blank series tonight with "Sprout Wings & Fly," "Julie: Old Time Tales of the Blue Ridge" and "My Old Fiddle: A Visit with Tommy Jarrell in the Blue Ridge." All combined, the films run just 58 minutes and start at 7 pm so you can be home in plenty of time for "CSI."
Or if you're avoiding going home to your lonely apartment, head over to Asylum (121 Center St., Portland) for Uncle Al's Retro Dance Party. It's in AL's Basement every Thursday night and there's no cover to get your groove on. Add in $2.50 well drinks and $2 PBRs and it's soooooo 80's.

Do you really believe that all those now out work in today's economy are stalled in their job search because they'd rather drink than work? What about all those folks who need to spend money they don't have to make money, (parents who need to arrange for child care while they work or folks who are faced with longer commutes without a reliable vehicle when contemplating a new job and let's not forget those who are trained in areas no longer needed such as those from the Jay paper mill?) If that PBR comment was an attempt at humor, you've picked the wrong audience at the wrong time.
