A weekend for lawnmowers & Jell-O

Rumor has it that Friday's going to be the best day of the work week. That won't be hard considering the rain and yuck of the last couple days.

So nice weather means outdoor fun and you've got music, art and lawn mowers to choose from on Friday.

Freeport may be a tourist spot in summer but it also has plenty for us natives. At the Freeport Farmers' Market today you can get some entertainment with your radishes and lettuce. Dog Wants Out, a band from Unity, will play for free from 2-6 pm. Grab a snack from a local vendor and settle in for the show. The market is held in the town office parking lot on Main Street.

Since you've gone that far north you might as well keep on driving to Brunswick for the 2nd Friday ArtWalk. Some 30 studios, galleries and businesses will open their doors from 5-8 pm and they're all within walking distance of downtown Brunswick and just over the green bridge in Topsham. Get a map or check out the listings at fiveriverartsalliance.org.

Heading back to the south of Portland its racing night once again at the Pathfinders club in Saco. So far this season the lawn mowers have been sidelined by the weather but this Friday they should be revved up and ready to roll. Races start at 7 pm and you can cheer on your favorite driver for free.

Like Greek food? How about checking out the grub - and the entertainment and the crafts and the music - at the Greek Heritage Festival at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco on Saturday? The spot is at 186 Bradley St. and the fest goes on from 11 am-9 pm. You can be entertained for free but you'll have to pay the price for the baklava.

Naples is a great spot when the summer weather's here. There are decks to sit on, boats to watch and a huge pond to admire. There's also a huge - or is it HUGE - yard sale on Saturday from 8 am-1 pm at the Naples Public Library. There's gonna be something for everyone and I'm guessing you'll find some bargains that will keep you under your budget. You may even have enough left over to get a Diet Coke while you watch the Songo River Queen depart with a load of tourists. Proceeds from the yard sale will benefit the library.

Need to get some music in your life? Empire D&D has it for you tonight. Catch Lady Lamb the Beekeeper with Feel It Robot and Tony Smokes and the Lady Killers in a 9 pm show. Cover's just $5. Can you believe that?

Sunday's going to be a good day to be milling around Monument Square. It's the start of the annual boat building festival to benefit The Compass Project. Ten groups of friends, families or co-workers will be building 12-foot boats in three day's time. Today you can watch them get their start. Come back in two days and see the finished products. The building starts at 9 am today and goes all day.

Get out your chaps and your cowboy hat. Cattle Call's playing tonight from 5-8 pm at Run of the Mill Public House and Brewery in Saco. The beverages will be flowing so grab one of the beers brewed on site and listen to the tunes for free.

And if you're in the mood for a drive today, point the car south toward the Maine/NH border. Artist Andrew Salomone will be putting on an interesting show of his work starting at 4 pm. In honor of another year in the life of Bill Cosby, Salomone will create a bust of the famous Dr. Huxtable - out of Jell-O shots! If you're 21 or older you can enjoy the exhibit with both your eyes and your mouth. Salomone plans to encourage onlookers to eat his art. It could even make you famous - the event will be streamed live on the internet. See Jell-O Head at Buoy Gallery in Kittery. You may want to bring your own whipped cream.

Efficiency Microsoft Office is basically a program that works as a trainer for Office 2007 keyboard shortcuts. The whole Office 2010 professional idea is to take into account the daily activities of a Microsoft Office 2010 Professional user on the computer and learn what the Microsoft Office 2007 user wants.
