Cheap tacos or bologna and a sunset

Most weeks Mondays are tough nights to find some serious (and cheap) fun. Not so this week. You've got a couple of decent options right here in P'Town.

First choice: Try catcing some tunes at everyone's favorite place where a fight may break out or a speaker may be blown at any minute - Geno's (625 Congress St., Portland). On stage to party in honor of their new release, Secret Trees, is Huak. If you need more than them, you can also get your fill of Gin Circus, the Grievants and Honey Mae Haydukes. The tunes start at 9 pm and donations of $5-$10 will get you in. Remember you're on a budget and be one of the cheapos.

If you know your food, you've got to get a seat at Bull Feeney's for the 8 pm Culinary Quiz. I'm not exactly sure how it works but I'll wager a guess that it has something to do food substances that aren't whipped cream-covered Jell-O shots or a bowl of bar pretzels.

Word is the weather is supposed to be good through the week so use your Monday for some fresh air. One of the best spots in the city for a picnic is up on the East End overlooking Casco Bay. Bologna goes awfully good with a sunset.

Cheap eats are first on the agenda for Tuesday. If you've got a craving for some Mexican get yourself over to Mesa Verde (618 Congress St., Portland) between 2-6 pm for happy hour. (Your boss will understand if you leave for lunch and don't return. That stuff happens all the time in the summer.) Specials of the day are $2 tacos and $2 Hoegaard drafts. Tacos go well with sunsets, too.

If it's music you're after again, you can be entertained outdoors for free at Portland Lobster Company from 6-9 pm. The music comes from Rizing Tide. It's up to you to find someone to buy your beverages for you.

If you're looking to make it a girls' night, there's no better place on a Tuesday than Jimmy the Greek's in Biddeford. Martini & Manicures night starts at 7 pm and ladies can get a martini for $5 and a mani for free. Believe it!

Wednesday's usually the toughest day of the week to get motivated. When you have to drag yourself out of bed, after work excitement seems oh so far away. So how about popping out of bed with a plan to do yoga outdoors instead? Awake Collective's outside yoga and movement arts summer program is still going strong. They'll be waiting for you up on the Eastern Prom near Quebec Street so wear your workout clothes and bring some money for a donation so you can join the group.

After an inspiring start to the day you'll be ready for anything - like the Sunset Folk series at 7:45 on the Western Prom. Singing for you tonight will be Portland fave Darien Brahms. Bring a blanket to sit on and a beverage or two to help you relax and enjoy.

If you'd rather be inside (What's wrong with you? Don't you know it's summer?), Dog Fish Bar & Grille has a deal for you. How about acoustic open mic night with hosts Michele Arcand and Craig Springer? And if that's not enough how about $2.50 Geary's drafts? Now we're talking.

It's outdoor music at its best on Thursday with another Alive at Five show at Monument Square. Tonight you'll be bopping to a Clash of the Titans showcase pitting Roy Orbison, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Nirvana. And don't forget to sign up for the MaineToday.com Weekender, which will put you in the running to win an acoustic guitar signed by the band. MaineToday.com and Portland Percussion wants to help you get the music in you. Visit the MaineToday.com table to sign up and check out the beer garden where you can get your photo taken next to the beer garden girl. The music plays from 5-8 pm.

When you've had enough of the outside tunes, head indoors to Port City Music Hall for the 8 p. Playing a freebie in the Front Lounge is Erin Harpe, also known as "the new empress of the delta blues." Sounds funky.

Thursday is usually a night when you can use some laughs. Check out open mic comedy at Slainte starting at 8 pm. I can't guarantee you'll bust a gut, but a few chuckles may make Friday get here a little sooner.
