See art, taste beer and party for Good Shepherd
Love jazz music? Love art? If you answer yes to one or both then Monday is the perfect day to get a healthy dose of the things you love at the University of New England's Campus Center in Biddeford. The artwork currently hanging there is the Jazz Series Exhibition, a black and white project from local artist Richard Payette. The Campus Center is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. but the show is only there until March 2.

Even if you had Monday off, the weeks can seem long this time of year. By Thursday you'll want to get back to Laser Fest at Southworth Planetarium. The event's held every February during school vacation week and today's shows are at noon, 2, 3, 7 and 8 p.m. Check the website for show sched and plan to pay $5 per person ($1 more for 3D glasses).

Start school vacation week off with some outdoor activities thanks to Pineland Farms. Many people have Monday off to celebrate Presidents Day and the New Gloucester facility is offering free admission to its trails and free rentals (while equipment lasts) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during Anthem's Winter Family Fitness Day. Do some cross-country skiing or snowshoeing (Pineland makes snow!), ice skate or try the sledding hill. Word is there will also be free snacks and complimentary gift bags for the first 500 people who show up.

Thursday is the day Goodwill diehards have been waiting for: It's the grand opening for the Goodwill Buy the Pound Warehouse Outlet in Gorham (34 Hutcherson Drive). Consumers can get great deals on deeply discounted donated merchandise AND help the organization's waste reduction and recycling efforts. This is an all-day event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Yeah, I know, facing five straight work days is rough, but maybe if you plan on heading out for some bluegrass music tonight it will make the hours go by a little faster.
