Blarney Days in Bath
March 14, 2010Green streets for St. Patrick's Day: Blarney Days in Bath
There weren't any boats sailing down Bath's main drag on Saturday. There was another kind of floating going in the City of Ships.
The parade kind.

Saturday's St. Patrick's Day festivities were part of the ongoing Blarney Days in Bath in honor of the impending Saint-inspired holiday.
Shamrocks dotted the crosswalks and green hats, shirts and socks dotted the parade watchers along the roadside.

Holding to ancient tradition, the bagpipers piped and the Pub Scouts kept tune with kazoos.

And like an ambulance on hand during a bull fight, the "Kazzoo Tunah" stayed close in case of any kazoo catastrophes.

Legend claims St. Patrick drove the snakes from Ireland (and by "snakes" we mean "pagans"). As a tribute, some local gentleman drove their ATVs (which also scare pagans - or so the legend goes).

Following the parade, spirited folks packed into Byrnes Irish Pub. There was also a tug-o-war at City Hall, but we seemed to have missed it.
Blarney Days continues through St. Patrick's Day on Wednesday. For the full schedule, check the Maine Event writeup from the PPH.

And now, a clean, respectable Limerick:
There once was a Portlander I knew.
Working St. Patrick's Day made her blue.
So into work she called sick.
What an original trick.
She nursed her health back at Brian Boru.
