A few musical notes about Juno

Being a very independent and eccentric movie, Juno brought a lot of independent and eccentric music along with it. Included in the soundtrack are bands Belle & Sebsatian (a favorite of mine), Sonic Youth, The Kinks, and Velvet Underground.

Here's a little sample of Belle & Sebastian with their song "Jonathan David".

More about Juno music after the cut.

The most prominent artist on the Juno soundtrack is Kimya Dawson and her bands Antsy Pants and The Moldy Peaches. Ellen Page (Juno) actually suggest that her character would listen to Kimya Dawson's music in the movie, so director Diablo Cody contacted Dawson and made her inclusion on the soundtrack official.

Here is The Moldy Peaches performing "Anyone Else But You" from the premiere of Juno.

The last note I would like to make is that the chemistry teacher in the movie is played by turntablist Cut Chemist. He used to be part of the hip hop group Jurassic 5. Here's a little clip of work by Cut Chemist.

wow. i totally missed that was Cut Chemist - how awesome!

In addition to just loving everything about this movie, it lead me to discover Kimya Dawson and i am hooked.

Moldy Peaches was on The View Monday which sounds corny unless you read Ms. Dawson's blog, then it sounds really sweet.

One thing that bothered me about the music in the movie was how they played "Superstar" and he said it was a Carpenters song. That song was originally written by Leon Russel and covered by the Carpenters. I hope that more people can appreciate that this great song was given to us by Leon and Bonnie Bramlett, and wonderfully covered by the Carpenters.

Maybe the truth about daisies is that they're really alien vegetation brought by another life form to slowly, quietly take over human kind. Or maybe it's just that daisies are pretty. Hear the music of locals Truth About Daisies (and maybe try to dissect their song lyrics for the truth) during a free bandstand concert in Deering Oaks Park. Aug 12 event Today's events
