Rustic Overtones and Wicked Music Videos: Pt. 3
Well, it is now official that the Rustic Overtones are reuniting, and they are also working on a new album with new material and previously unreleased material. Tony McNaboe, Dave Noyes, Ryan Zoidis, Dave Gutter, Jon Roods, Jason Ward, and Spencer Albee will all be returning to play in the band. Don't worry about As Fast As, Paranoid Social Club, and the like; they will still be around.
The band will be doing two shows: a 21+ show at the Asylum on July 28 and an all ages show at the same place on July 29. Tickets are $20 a piece and can be bought at Bullmoose Music.

I've been a fan of this small band from Brooklyn since last November, and they're quite unique. The band is called Uncle Monsterface, and they consider themselves to be sock-puppet rockers. In more conventional terms, their genres fall under new wave and experimental, with influences ranging from They Might Be Giants to The Aquabats to Danny Elfman's Oingo Boingo. It's really hard to describe them, but I'll give it a try: They're an eccentric, mischievous, high-energy band that uses theatrics, puppets, projectors, and inflatable goods to create a show unlike anything else. Just imagine They Might Be Giants on crack.

Why didn't I hear about this earlier? Rustic Overtones has reunited for some tour dates around Portland! They made an appearance in the WCYY studio on May 18th to announce the good news! Seriously, why didn't I know about this already? Their first performance will be a patio show outside thw WCYY studio. I'm so excited! I haven't seen them perform since 1997! They were my first favorite rock band! Woohoo!
New Polyphonic Spree song!
I didn't even know this was out! I just found a new Polyphonic Spree song from their upcoming album, The Fragile Army, on YouTube, and it sounds great! You can listen to it right here on Man, It's So Loud In Here!

The Everyday Visuals at the Big Easy - 5/17
The Everyday Visuals put on another amazing show last Thursday night. Since I was more familiar with their music for this concert, so it was a lot more enjoyable.
One of the best things I like about The Everyday Visuals is watching them perform. The band is made up of very talented musicians, and that's why I was right up front to see them.

Well, actually it is. That's just the name of a They Might Be Giants song I like a lot. I got some cool new cds for my 18th birthday: Dinosaur Jr.'s Beyond, Rufus Wainwright's Release the Stars, and Frank Zappa's Lather, a compilation the man put together himself before he died. One of my good friends got me a very sweet Led Zeppelin movie poster for my dorm next year.
The two biggest presents were concert tickets for two shows. I'm going to see The Polyphonic Spree in Boston at the Avalon on July 2nd and Rufus Wainwright at the same place on August 21st. I'd like to thank my mom and Dr. Rock'n'Roll for making this all happen.

The Everyday Visuals show was great, but I'm very tired, so I'll write a review of the show later. I'm also going to have a review of the new They Might Be Giants album, The Else. Expect both write-ups within a week.
Since I'm tired and lazy, here's another wicked music video. If you like 80's new wave, you have to check this out. This is an Australian duo called The Presets, and they made an appearance at the SXSW in Texas this year.

The Everyday Visuals are coming to Portland

The Boston-based indie group The Everyday Visuals are coming back to Portland on May 17th at the Big Easy. They are still promoting their new album Things Will Look Up. The Everyday Visuals combine elements of melodic rock and electronica to make something completely unique. If you like R.E.M., Radiohead, or Wilco, you will like this band a lot. The band just found out that they are they most played Indie band in Boston. Visit their Myspace to listen to tracks from their latest album.
Here's a little about my band...
My band is called The Cheese Grater Experience, Version 5. Featuring Major Vader. The band was started with three friends, my brother, and me pulling a midnight improv jam in January. My three friends and I are the musicians in the band, and my brother is the exclusive dance member (Major Vader). We don't play a particular style of music. So far we have ranged from rock to new wave to folk.

This is one of the music videos that really got me into They Might Be Giants. Enjoy.

Muse and My Chemical Romance: CANCELLED
The Muse and My Chemical Romance show scheduled for Sunday night was cancelled, because both bands got serious food poisoning in Virginia. The show may be rescheduled, but as of now, there are no guarantees. I'm very disappointed, because I really wanted to see Muse, but I didn't want to see one of my favorite bands dying on stage, so this is all for the better.
This post is dedicated to what the show might have been like, so I will entertain you with a bunch of Youtube videos.

I finally got to see my favorite band in the world last night, and I was pleasantly pleased. IT WAS AN AWESOME SHOW!
They Might Be Giants is a geek rock band that has been around since 1982, and they still rock very hard! I got to the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH very early, so I was able to find a spot right in front of the small stage. If I reached out with both arms, I would touch John Linnell, the keyboardist/accordionist/vocalist of the band. I didn't do that, though, because I didn't want to seem like a creep. It was pleasing enough to be this close to the band anyways!

Get ready to be really happy and optimistic! The choral symphonic pop group from Texas is releasing a new, full-length album in July!
If you don't know why I told you to be happy and optimistic, you must not be familiar with The Polyphonic Spree.
