The U.S. Census Bureau has a section of State and County QuickFacts which provides frequently requested Census Bureau information at the national, state and county level, including information about previous census information.

  • Quick Facts: Maine gives quick facts about popuation, business and geography. Did you know that (as of 1999) Maine has 40.6 people per square mile?
  • Quick Facts: USA gives you a US map to choose from. This will have 2000 Census data in April, 2001.

    Want to explain the Census to your children? On the Marshall Brain's How Stuff Works Web site, the How the Census Works section has a description of the Census Bureau and answers to some basic questions like "Why is the Census Important?" and "What about Children? Are they counted?".

    The US Census Bureau's Maine page provides links to statewide population, demographic, and housing information from the 1990 Census, 1999 population estimates, and more.

    The US Census Bureau's Maine Profiles section begins with a map of Maine divided by county. Click on each county to get a profile of the county including links to population, demographic, and housing information from the 1990 Census, and more.

    The Census State Data Center has a partnership program with all the state. In Maine, the partner is the Maine State Planning Office. The Maine Census Data Center Program is a network of organizations (libraries, planning organizations, university departments, and agencies of state government) that makes US Census data products available to the Maine public. The Maine Census Consortium is a unit within the Maine State Planning Office that administers the Maine Census Data Center Program.

    Greater Portland Council of Governments serves municipalities in the Greater Portland region. It maintains and analyzes census data.

    The Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission is a council of governments serving municipalities in southern Maine. It has demographic and economic data and projects that use and manipulate that data.
