Participation

There are three levels of access in Maine Communities Online. If you've not yet registered, you are a guest. Registered members can join in discussions and post some content. An adminsitrator can have extended control of his or her site's layout and content.


Guests

A guest is any user who accesses Maine Communities Online but has not yet registered. A guest cannot contribute content. Note that a guest may or may not be a registered Maine Communities Online member, guests are simply those have not completed a login procedure during the current session. 

Can Do 

Cannot Do
  • Guests can view all public content. 
  • Guests can search for groups in Maine Communities Online. 
  • Guests can register and become Maine Communities Online members. 

 

  • Guests cannot view private group content. Groups may mark certain sections of their sites as private. To view their content you must be both a registered user and a member of that particular group. 
  • Guests cannot join groups. 
  • Guests cannot participate in threaded discussion or contribute content. 

As a guest you are limited in participation. Becoming a registered user of Maine Communities Online is prerequisite to joining groups.


Registered Members

In addition to the privileges of a guest, a Maine Communities Online registered user can contribute to public discussion forums and join groups.

Can Do 

Cannot Do 
  • Enjoy all guest privileges. 
  • Participate in public discussion areas. 
  • Join groups. 
  • View group content of the group that you have joined. 
  • Become a group administrator.  
  • Cannot post content to a group site unless assigned editorial rights by the group administrator. 
  • Cannot post content or create new groups unless assigned administration rights by Online Community Organizer. 
  • Cannot post content in the calendar or newsletter items. 

Register now — it's simple. Required information is your name, e-mail address, a user name, and a password.


Group Administrators

The group administrator has all the privileges of a group member, as well as the ability to post content on his or her group's site. The group administrator is also given access to the Admin Console where he or she can create new subgroups, approve items and events for inclusion, and control membership.  

Can do

Cannot do 
  • post content to the group site (homepage, calendar, discussion area). 
  • modify the profile information of the group. 
  • approve events for inclusion in group's calendar. 
  • approve membership if approval is required. 
  • create/delete sub groups. 
  • delegate Admin privileges to other members. 
  • send e-mail to all members.
  • administer other groups within Maine Communities Online.
  • delete other parent groups. 
  • see a list of all members in Maine Communities Online. 
  • create new parent groups. 
  • cannot administer users accounts. 

 

To sign up your group you can do one of the following:

The person appointed by your group to be the group's administrator must become a registered user of Maine Communities Online. He or she will be notified by e-mail when administration rights are assigned or changed.
