Maine Expansion Arts Fund awards $47,000 in grants

The Maine Expansion Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation recently awarded nearly $47,000 in grants to 12 organizations involved in indigenous, ethnic, or rural arts programs or projects, including Partners in Island Education. This Vinalhaven-based organization will use its grant to fund a three-month technical theater program for students and adults.

Grants were also made to:

Association culturelle et historique du Mont-Carmel, Lille, for Musée on the Web

Center Theatre, Dover-Foxcroft, to expand the children's summer drama camp

Eastport Arts Center, Eastport, for family performing arts experiences

Figures of Speech Theatre, Freeport, for the production of The Jester Kings of Java, an authentic Indonesian shadow puppet show

Healthy Island Project, Deer Isle, for a community leadership skills program in collaboration with Opera House Arts

Kennebec Valley Art Association, Hallowell, for a series of exhibitions of art work by students in grades K-12 and their teachers

Nathan Clifford School, Portland, to host a school-wide language and cultural arts program for students

Quoddy Tides Foundation, Eastport, for the Culture Pass Almanac

Seamark Community Arts, Deer Isle, to run winter art workshops

The Doorway, Houlton, for a stage adaptation of It's a Wonderful Life

The Museum of African Culture, Portland, to improve its existing educational programs.
