Maine film screening at Miami Festival
The winner of the 2008 Portland, ME 48 Hour Film Project, "Mailboat", will screen at Filmapalooza at the Miami International Film Festival on the weekend of March 13. The film was made in only 48 hours by team Ghee La Roche, led by Jayson Lobozzo.
After winning the Portland, ME 48 Hour Film Roche event, the film is now competing against 69 other films from 15 countries on four continents for the title of Best Film of the 2008 48 Hour Film Project, which comes with a $5,000 cash prize.
Team members Jennifer Fisher, Michael Panenka and Melany Kuhn will travel to Miami where they will meet other 48 HFP winners from around the world and attend screenings, workshops and other events. They will also be awarded a trophy for their achievement on Saturday, March 14.
Filmmakers Lobozzo, Panenka and Tom Eichler assembled a team of local film and theatre professionals who donated their time and resources for the 48 hour film weekend in August, 2008. The film was shot entirely on Sturdivant Island, just off the coast of Cumberland. The cast consisted of Chip Emmons, Maureen Butler and David Butler. The soundtrack was completed by Acadia Recording Studios in Portland. As the city winners representing Portland, team Ghee La Roche was invited to participate in the International Shootout in January. This was another 48 hour filmmaking weekend that was shot in the Portland area. The five minute film, "A Brief Case of Love" was screened at SPACE Gallery on Congress Street in early February.
