3 Creative Conversations planned by PACA
The Portland Arts and Cultural Alliance has announced the spring series of Creative Conversations. Creative Conversations is a way to connect creative individuals: to each other, to organizations, to information, to opportunities. Three events remain in the series. All events are free and open to the public.
Marketing through Technology will be presented in partnership with the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies on May 11. Moderated by MECA's Jessica Tomlinson, this meeting will focus on resources available to artists who are interested in using technology to market and promote their work. A variety of options will be discussed. Guests include Darrell Bulmer, Communication Associate at the Maine Arts Commission; Karen Gelardi, an artist and designer at Angela Adams; and Spencer Albee, a musician and concert promoter. Salt is located at 561 Congress St. in Portland. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the event will run from 7-9 pm.
On May 19, PACA presents The Creative Economy: Then and Now at the Maine Historical Society. Focusing on reviewing the history and visioning the future of the creative economy in Portland, this important discussion will also be moderated by Tomlinson. Guests include Donna McNeil, Director of the Maine Arts Commission; Jan Beitzer, Executive Director of Portland's Downtown District; Adam Ayan, Portland Music Foundation; and members of Portland's Creative Economy Steering Committee. The Maine Historical Society is located at 489 Congress St. The event will run from 6-8 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm.
The final Creative Conversations in the series will be a Workshop for Artists on June 6, beginning at noon and continuing until 2:30 pm. Presented in partnership with SPACE, this meeting focuses on providing direct consultative support as a resource to artists. Artists are invited to bring their questions and materials for review. Guidance will be suggested in response to questions and feedback will be offered on how to strengthen materials. Artists should bring their resume or other written material, tech questions, applications for grants or residencies and disks or reproductions instead of actual art work. Space is located at 538 Congress St. Doors open at 11:30 am.
Portland Arts & Cultural Alliance serves as the official arts agency for the City of Portland. The mission of PACA is to empower and support artists in order to strengthen Portland.
