The Portland, Maine Dyke March committee is seeking new members
Even though Summer is coming to an end, the Dyke March Committee is looking forward to the beautiful days of fall and starting to get excited about Dyke March events throughout the fall and winter. We're also starting to think about Portland Dyke March 2010!
The Committee is also looking for new members. The "application" to join the committee appears below.
And save the date: Dyketoberfest! on Friday, October 16th at the North Star Music Cafe
The Portland Dyke March Committee has been made up of 5 self-identified dykes. Two of our members have stepped down and we are seeking new people to work with us. The Portland Dyke March Committee is fairly limited in number and recognizes that we won't always visually represent the wide range of our community. We are seeking committee members who understand the complexity of Portland area dykes and the people who love them and is mindful of our mission to be positive, feminist, diverse and community driven. Self-identified dykes preferred.
The Portland Dyke March's mission statement is as follows:
The mission of the Portland, Maine Dyke March is to create an empowering movement that fosters community and celebration for dykes and the people who love them. The Portland Dyke March seeks to be positive, feminist, diverse, and community-driven in all of its endeavors. We welcome anyone with a past or present connection to the dyke community.
We are currently committed to this statement as the basis of all our event planning. We ask that any new committee members understand and commit themselves to being guided by our mission statement.
Planning, organizing, and running the Portland Dyke March is exciting and fun, but it can be time consuming. If you are interested in becoming a member, there are very specific time commitments we ask you make:
July-November 1 meeting/month, 1-2 events
December- April 2 meetings/month, 1 event per month
