Portland Crowns Drum Champion: Tonto Taranto
Last week, Tonto Taranto came one step closer to becoming famous when he was crowned the local winner of Guitar Center's Drum-Off '09, the nationwide search for the "Best Undiscovered Drummer in the Nation."
On November 5, Tonto will move on to compete in the Drum-Off District Finals, taking place at the Guitar Center store in Boston, where he will continue to battle it out for a chance to win over $40,000 in cash and prizes. GC's Drum-Off champion will have career-altering opportunities, including national media attention and recognition from the professional drumming community. Last year's Drum Off Champion, 22-year-old Jerome Flood II, performed in front of drumming legends that included Adrian Young (No Doubt), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), The Rev (Avenged Sevenfold) and Danny Carey (Tool). Flood made his television debut when he was invited to perform on Last Call with Carson Daly.
