Show us your woodpile contest
Do you have a woodstove in your house, or just appreciate the snap of a stick of rock maple and the dance of an open flame in your fireplace? Does the cost of home heating oil have you down? Do you like really tasty coffee? Matt?s Wood Roasted Organic Coffee, a roaster based in Pownal, Maine, is currently running a "Show Us Your Woodpile" photo contest. The individual who submits the best photograph of the wood they'll be burning this winter will receive their choice of a Bodum grinder or Aerobie Aeropress and free whole bean coffee for a year, mailed to their door. There are coffee prizes for runners up as well.
A few prize details and parameters for the contest can be found at
www.mattscoffee.com/contest.php, but the premise is pretty simple. The only requirement is that you stacked, or helped to stack, the wood in the photo yourself. The contest runs through November 15, and images can be submitted to woodpile@mattscoffee.com. Entries are limited to two per person.
Stations expand reach, change dial locations
From the Portland Press Herald:
By Ray Routhier, Portland Press Herald Staff Writer
The Portland-based country music radio station known as The Wolf is expanding its signal into York County.
The Wolf, currently heard on 99.9 FM in greater Portland, will also be heard on 99.3 FM in York County beginning Oct. 2, said Pat Collins, vice president of Nassau Broadcasting, the station's owner.
At the same time, Nassau is changing the dial position of its classical station, WBACH. That station has been on 99.3 FM and 106.3 FM, but beginning Oct. 2 it will be heard on 104.7 FM, said Collins. He said that 104.7 FM reaches about the same area as WBACH's two current dial positions do.
Nassau is taking 104.7 FM from its rock station, The Bone. The Bone will now air on 106.3 FM, a former dial position for WBACH, and on its other current dial position, 106.7 FM.
Clay Hill Farm's Green Wedding Contest
Clay Hill Farm's unique new concept THE GREEN WEDDING GIVEAWAY will be launched on September 25th by celebrity relationship expert, Steve Santagati, at a Press-Only Preview Reception to be held Thursday, September 25th from 3:30-5:30pm at Clay Hill Farm in York, Maine. Please RSVP by 9/22/08 to clayhillmedia@gmail.com
Clay Hill Farm's Green Wedding Giveaway, www.greenweddinggiveaway.com, is a contest of commitment. Couples are encouraged to explore the parallel of a commitment to each other and a commitment to the earth. Couples are asked to submit a play, a poem, a painting, or a song, along with a two-minute video or a photograph and essay that creatively answers the contest question and demonstrates an understanding of the contest message. We are all green in some way. Pick your shade and shout it to the world. Applications for the Green Wedding Giveaway, contest rules and complete details will be available online at www.greenweddinggiveaway.com. The contest starts September 25th. Engaged couples must complete their online applications and mail their entries on a CD or DVD to the contest address by December 31st, 2008.
"When it comes to marriage, I have been quoted as saying don't do it," says Santagati, "...because most people are not fully aware of the commitment it takes to make a marriage work for the long haul. However, I've discovered that people who are aware of matrimonial reality are usually aware of other things as well; safe driving, health, and yes, the environment. So will a couple's common sense transcend the relationship and carry over into their green practices? I think so."
"With product prizes well over $40,000, Clay Hill Farm's Green Wedding Giveaway project is fighting green fatigue in a big way" says, Jennifer Lewis-McShera, founder of Clay Hill Farm's Green Wedding Giveaway Contest.
The top-five couples will be decided by a panel of Clay Hill judges and will be revealed at a bridal fair in Portsmouth, NH on January 11, 2009. After the top-five couples are revealed, the public will vote and pick the winner. Public ballots will be available at www.greenweddinggiveaway.com. The winning couple will be announced February 13, 2009, just in time for Valentine's Day. The Green Wedding Giveaway will be a daytime wedding ceremony and reception at Clay Hill Farm on June 21, 2009, appropriately the Summer Solstice. Rehearsal dinner, ceremony, catered reception, flowers, hand-painted watercolor invitations, photography, DJ services, live cocktail music, cake, hybrid bridal transportation, spa services, organic beverages, tuxedo rentals, wedding-night suite and honeymoon week...are all part of the Grand Prize package.
In addition to the Grand Prize Wedding Package valued at over $30,000, the top-four couples will be awarded prize packages, and random prizes will be awarded to contestants and voters.
Going Post-al, er ... Post-It!
If you've noticed that all of the Post-It have disappeared from the office supply cabinet, you may want to ask if Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz have been on the premises.
The two Mainers, who found fame by dropping Mentos candies into bottles of Diet Coke, are back with their latest experiment. This one features colorful Post-It notes that do their impressions of party streamers and Slinkys in a three-minute video sponsored by 3M, Office Max and Coca-Cola.
