Health scare-Wolf hybrid dies of rabies in Gray
Did you know that Wolf hybrids are not protected from rabies with the canine rabies vaccine? I didn't.
Read the entire Portland Press Herald article here.
Update-
After reading several emails I have learned that it is not proven that hybrids do not benefit from a rabies vaccine. There is no acceptable standard due to the small percentage of hybrids and the high expense it would take to test.
Read about this and more from Wolf Park here

Wow, I did not know that the Hybrid's are unprotected. That is really good to know.

It has never been proven because of expense but lets reason this out for a minute. Half Dog/Half Wolf and that is assuming they are 50% crosses. Most are 25% crosses and the wolf is removed serveral generations. So what LOGICALLY would that tell you. Here is an article written by a vet (who is against the breeding of hybrids) but went to bat for them to save their lives by rigthing a wrong.
I have rescued and rehomed many hybrid crosses so the fact that they are "wild animals" is a bunch of bunk. Educate yourself before you engage your fingers so we do not give out bad info. We all know what happens when we all ASSUME something not edvidenced by facts.

Ok-Thanks for posting Jill (Jill is trainer who has worked with many hybrids over the years). I accept my finger lashing -and actually - I asked her for it.
Anyone else care to comment on this? Many of you have VERY strong opinions on this subject as you all have been writing me all day, so post away.
