Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Spender
Saturday is Shop for a Cause in downtown Portland. Participating stores will donate a percentage of the day’s profits to the well-deserving Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine.
I know the holidays pull everyone’s wallet in a million different directions, but this is an easy way for your already-earmarked gift money to help local children. So, if you need board games anyway, why not buy them at Treehouse Toys this weekend?
If there aren't any Cranium fans on your list, try the other participating stores – they will no doubt satisfy even the most demanding of lists. Here are a few to get you started:
At Portmanteau scoop up their signature tapestry totes in rich fall and winter prints. Or for the zen set, try the Happy Yogi for some yoga-wear by labels such as Be Present and Verve, and then maybe treat yourself to the hand-rolled Indian or Japanese incense to ease your shopping stress.
I love getting my no-longer-in-Maine loved ones gifts from Lovell Designs. This summer I purchased the now discontinued Cetacea pendant for my West Coast sister, and while there’s still a limited stock of that piece, the Nautilus, Cypress Tree or classic Damariscotta designs are good options. And since each are available in pewter, silver, gold plated or 14K you can stay within your budget.
Wherever your shopping takes you, get your pick-me-up at Coffee By Design, which is also participating in the event. With several holiday blends to choose from, you can shop while you caffeinate. And really, what’s the holiday season without a little Jingle Bell Java?
