Saturday was a tough day for me. As with most people my age, I'm generally not awake and moving on a Saturday morning until the sunny side of noon. This past weekend though my alarms (yes both of them -- my first alarm clock wakes me up and lets me snooze while my obnoxious cell phone alarm gets me out of bed after the 3rd or 4th... or 5th round of snoozing) went off at 5 am... exactly 4 hours after I'd set them before falling asleep Friday night.

Showing my undying (if fleeting -- I have to go back to school by the end of this month) devotion for MaineToday.com, I was scheduled to produce a Seen video segment on the 10th annual Beach to Beacon 10k road race. The media truck, which is really just PR code for a sketchy trailer the event organizers pile all the press people on so we stay out of the runners way was leaving Cape Elizabeth High School at 6:30 am. If I missed this truck I missed the race. So after dragging myself out of bed I crawled into my car and made a b-line for the friendly local Dunkin Donuts.

After eating a sad excuse for a sausage egg and cheese sandwich and coffee, I was on the road for the Beach to Beacon.

The race itself was pretty intense. I sure wouldn't be able to run the damn thing, much less at the 4:30 pace the winner ran it in. I had a hard enough time holding on to the media truck the whole time without falling off and getting trampled like one of these guys during the Spanish running of the bulls.

The one thing I was keeping my eye out for, but never saw, was Shannon Bryan running. Shannon's a producer here at MaineToday who has blogged extensively about doing the run, but according to the searchable race results, she never ran. Do it yourself. Search Bryan in the last name search field. I see a Beth Bryan and a Jeff Bryan... but no Shannon Bryan.

Explanation? We'll have to wait, she's actually on "vacation" until Thursday.
