Another Two Minutes Wasted
You can thank me later.

There's nothing here that you really need to know. Nothing that will impress strangers at parties, nothing that will help you answer that million dollar game show question. Even still, it sure beats doing something.

Are you there Maine? It's me, Jesus.

I just had to write after I read the "Seen Jesus lately? Me neither" blog a few weeks ago. I won't lie (never have, never will), it upset me. I mean, it's a lose-lose situation for me sometimes - cynicism has made my job difficult.

You appear to someone in a dream and they wake up, go to Borders, buy a dream interpretation book and end up believing they're about to come into some money (in which case they stop off at a gas station to purchase a flurry of Lotto tickets) or someone in their family is going to become ill (in which case they watch their mother-in-law with devout - and disturbingly upbeat - anticipation).

But nobody thinks it's really me.

Appear to someone as a warming bright light, an angel in the sky or even a benevolent voice in the dark and they shake their head in disbelief, eyeball the beer can in their hand and wonder "What the hell is IN this." Should they mention the incident later, they'll be rewarded with a fast-track ticket to the bughouse.

So I go out of my way to ease into people's lives - a tortilla here, a water stain there. And sometimes it works. Sometimes I get that blessed look of recognition. Sometimes a full week of appreciation, understanding and worship goes by before I'm mis-employed as a for-profit neighborhood attraction. Eventually the word "eBay" comes up and I'm sold along side five Webkinz and a toaster.

It seems like nobody takes me seriously.

My most recent appearance wasn't even noticed for years! There I am, in plain view on a tree in the front yard of a Portland home. Months go by without even a glance. I even start shouting, "I'm over here!" and still nothing.

Then finally, last week, discovery!

"Awesome," I thought. "Now I'll finally be able to spread my message of love to those who need it most." Then I notice the keen-eyed lady is giggling, calling others over, pointing and taking photos.

I closed my eyes in despair. "Ugh, another cynic."

So please, a little respect and consideration is in order. I've thus laid out some ground rules:

1. Jesus is everywhere, so keep your eyes peeled (and stop doing that thing you do when you think no one is looking. It's gross).

2. While Jesus can and has appeared on edible goods, he's shutting down that avenue going forward. People don't seem to pay much attention to what they're eating these days and Jesus ends up in a place he doesn't want to be.

3. Don't sell Jesus on eBay. Think about it. It's just not right.

Eternally yours,
Jesus

Andrea, please don't get down on yourself. Here, I've outlined my profile on this image so you can better see it.

There you are! I was looking for you - you disappeared for a while. It's good to see you! But why haven't you responded to any of my texts? Maybe I can come over sometime?

I just don't see it, I've been staring and staring and I just don't see it. I feel like that guy in MALLRATS who stares at the mosaic for hours and just can't see the sailboat!!! GRRR Maybe Jesus doesn't love me enough to show me his presence on the tree. Maybe I've done something terribly wrong with my life. Maybe I'm doomed. AAAGHHHHH Thanks for starting out my day on a happy note.

Your attempt at wry humor has failed miserably. I'm agnostic and even I found this commentary somewhat offensive towards Christians, and also, it's kinda stupid -- in that oafish and tactless Kate Barker style. Get a life, please.

Dear Tree Jesus,
I'm glad you're in town. I've wanted to ask you something for a while, and I don't have unlimited long distance. Often I hear people, mostly me, utter your full name, Jesus H. Christ, in a tone approaching exasperation. Like many of the faithful, I've wondered, just what does the "H" stand for?

Of course, I ask in the name of the Father, the Son (Jesus H. Christ), and the Holy Ghost (no relation to Casper).

P.S. I certainly hope my inquiry into this matter doesn't offend the all-too-tender sensibilities of Christians, and John.

Thanks for helping validate my decision earlier today that I would give up looking at Maine Today. It's become apparent in the last few months and weeks that there's really nothing worth looking at here. I'm not super religious or anything like that, but I just can't really fathom what you were getting at here today with this piece. Was it sincerely religious, was it sarcasm, something else? You really lost me. Just count me as a second to John's opinion above. Thanks, you really helped me to save me at least "2 minutes" a day from now on. You are really undeserving of a top billing on the website of what claims to try to be a major news outlet for the State of Maine. Maine Today and "Another 2 Mnutes"
are really an embarassment to the state and the good people of Maine.
Hey the state called and they want their name back. Oh and that leaves you with a name that NBC will have their lawyers call and tell you to cease and desist as well. That's an idea. Oh, what do I care, I'm just not going to look anymore.

P.S. Tell Carey good-bye for me. He was the last good blogger here, but my suggestion to him would be that he cut loose from the losers at MT and go it on his own.

Wow, Gone from MT, me too! What a stupid piece of trash this is! Offensive to christians doesn't even begin to describe it. Having a deep abiding faith in One who is not seen with the physical eyes has much more meaning than trying to find God in a piece of tree bark or a taco. As if the king of the universe is going to use this guy as his personal mouth piece. Although, he did speak through the mouth of an jack-ass once...way to go MT. You are not even worthy of the time it took me to write this comment.

Oh c'mon people, apparently there are some folks here taking things a little too seriously. From what I see, mainetoday is headed in a different direction since they unveiled their new look, and frankly I'm impressed. News is available, you can find it: Press Herald, Kennebec Journal, WCSH, there's a list. But at least mainetoday provides a different outlook on stuff happening in the state. And I'm entertained. Shannon, and Guest Blogger, keep it up, you're doing FINE.

My goodness!!!! I must admit I'm a bit bewildered by all the animosity here! When I read the original post, I admittedly "missed" that the ENTIRE POST was supposed to be from the "voice" of Jesus (even though the subject SAYS..."It's me, Jesus" (I guess I read it that the writer was just telling Jesus "it's me"). At any rate, getting more into it, it was apparent that the thought's were supposedly Jesus's thoughts. They seemed also to voice His frustration with so many of His flock (and who WOULDN'T be frustrated...with so many TALKING the talk, and so few WALKING the walk!)

Taken from THAT perspective, I find it hard to understand why there's been so my anxt expressed here! Personally, seems to me that the "faithful" DO see Jesus everywhere....whether it's because He's really there, or simply because they "see" what they want/expect to see, may be open for debate. And for those that DON'T believe, where's the problem?

The nice thing about this thing called "freedom of speech" is that we can all voice our opinions. Whether someone else WANTS TO LISTEN (or read) that opinion is up to them. It's unfortunate, however, that some equate "expressing disinterest" with spewing venom. From what I've read, that would not have been an approach that Jesus would have supported.

Shannon Defender is right on the money. Harder news, if that's your cup of self-righteousness, is just an extra click away. How inconvenient. As for Gone From MT and Me Too, All Gone, here's a little advice to help you go: take the stick out. Either way, rest assured that you are both Gone but not forgotten. Check that, forgotten, too.

I'm with you folks....with "real" news everywhere (but who knows how much of it is true once the media spin doctors add their slant) is sometimes more than I want to think about. Light, edgy humor is often just the ticket to start my day with a smile, a chuckle, a shrug of the shoulder, an incredulous nod of the head.

Oh, and Andrea, I could SWEAR He's gently sighing right in your direction...probably thinking "it's okay if you don't see me....because I know your heart! And it's good!"

John always was a stick in the mud. Peter and Paul were much more fun to hang around with. Just for kicks, we would carve his mug into trees, tomatoes, doors, etc. People blamed him because he thought he was on some sort of ego trip. It was a hoot. I guess the classics never go away.

BTW, Jesus laughed with the joke. Even though he was holier than thou, he didn't act it.
